October 2022 Nebo PEAK Award Winners

THE PEAK AWARD CUSTOMER SERVICE PROGRAM
Nebo School District wants to showcase our Positive Energy and Kind employees. PEAK Awards are nominated by patrons and recognized by the Superintendent Staff and Nebo School Board of Education. The award is administered by the Communications and Community Relations Department.

Courtney Packard, Counselor, Maple Mountain High
Nominated by: Katy & Joy Smith

“Courtney Packard has been the counselor for two of my children. She has blown me away. Ms. Packard has consistently taken time to help my children work through their schedules, college applications, scholarships, online classes and so much more. I can contact her, and she responds quickly. If she doesn't have the answer, she gets it and responds within the same day. On one occasion, my daughter was not feeling well. She needed some food and still had an hour before lunch. Ms. Packard gave her a granola bar that helped her immediately. Ms. Packard has 'rescued' one of my children when we found out about deadlines and needed extra help. Ms. Packard even brought the information to our home. She bends over backwards to help my children succeed. They feel safe talking to her. I attribute much of my students’ success to Courtney Packard. She is the best counselor, friend, and mentor.”

Anthony Bowden, Teacher, Diamond Fork Middle
Nominated by: Cecily Yeager, Danielle Gardiner, Brenda Burr, Sandy Caceres, Russ Sumens

“As a co-worker recently pointed out, few people at our school have any idea just how many things Anthony Bowden really does at our school. If you ask him for help, Anthony just does what you need; he truly is an individual you can depend on.”

“Although Anthony officially teaches health, cycling, and our peer leadership class, he can also be found running our talent show, assembling furniture, putting up and decorating our Christmas tree, helping organize our end-of-the-year activity day, hauling furniture out of the building, organizing equipment in the summer, and supervising when administration isn't in the building, etc. There is no end to Anthony's awesomeness!”

“Anthony serves as a positive example to students in class and around the school, as well. Students love being in Coach Bowden's classes and are held to a high bar of responsibility. Anthony involves his peer leadership class around our school in opportunities of service, like greeting our subs each morning with a water bottle and treat.”

“When our principal texted Anthony and another teacher one weekend to ask about putting up a new Christmas tree in the cafeteria before our fine arts performances, the teachers immediately began planning. Anthony stated that he would run over to the building that afternoon to see if the tree would fit, while the other teacher wondered if our current scaffolding would be tall enough for decorating. Both began price checking against other trees they could find. Confused, Brenda finally realized that she had typed 22 ft. Christmas tree instead of 12 ft., but Anthony was ready to do what was needed if the tree was 22 feet.”

“Last, but not least, Anthony has a great capacity for humor and mischief. He has been known, along with some of his peers, to pull practical jokes on his co-workers. Anthony brings a fun, but much needed element to the faculty.”

Robyn Miller, Secretary, Salem Hills High
Nominated by: Cindie Simmons, Brad Fillmore

“Robyn is an amazing financial secretary. She is efficient and exhibits great patience and good humor with students, parents, and teachers in managing our school finances. She also takes tickets and money and at extra-curricular activities. Robyn is the best financial secretary I have encountered in my 27 years.”

“Robyn handles all of the school finances. She spends so much time helping coaches, faculty, and students. She is kind and very patient!”

Bryan Paxton, Bus Driver, Transportation
Amber Stokes, Bus Attendant, Transportation
Nominated by: Shauna & Brooke Shepherd

“This has to be a package deal because Bryan and Amber are always so excited when they pick up our son for school. Every day, they act like they haven't seen him in so long; and that he is all they've waited for each day. They truly make him feel special and feel like the most important little guy in the world. They have helped him love going to school. He is treated like a rock star with smiles, high fives, and love, as soon as the bus pulls up.”

Lori Nielsen, Principal, Westside Elementary
Nominated by: Kristie Bowers, Jane Price, Andrew Lovell

“Lori cares about the teachers, support staff, parents, and above all the students at Westside. She puts her whole heart into making Westside a place where everyone feels welcome and important. She is constantly looking for anyone who needs help or an encouraging word. She has a way of making everyone feel like they are her favorite. Lori inspires others to do their best and to never give up. She is willing to do anything to help the school and encourage the students. In fact, she has kissed a pig, been slimed, duct taped to the wall, and silly stringed by a group of fifth-graders to encourage the students to succeed. She has inspired us to be the best we can be. We are honored to call her our principal and friend.”

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This initiative is designed to focus on "raising the bar" on providing exceptional customer service, both internally and externally. A key component of this initiative is the development of the PEAK Award. The PEAK (Positive Energy and Kindness) Award is presented monthly to someone in the Nebo School District who "really gets it" when it comes to providing exceptional customer service, which in turn results in positive impacts on everyone including students, parents, co-workers and members of the community.

Who Gets Nominated?
Faculty and staff members are nominated by anyone in the community through the Nebo School District website, www.nebo.edu/PEAK wherein a special Customer Service link is provided. The directions as to how to nominate an employee for the PEAK Awards are clearly spelled out on the site. All nominations must include information on how the individual has provided exceptional customer service, as well as how the employee's actions impacted the nominator's overall perception of Nebo School District Schools. The name and contact information of the nominator must be included.
