Brookside Elementary Presents Rise Up To Excellence

Brookside Elementary’s student council and a handful of fifth-graders had the opportunity to present to the Nebo Board of Education during the March board meeting. Brielle led the large audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The student council that presented to the Nebo School Board of Education were:
Lydia, Brielle, Quinn, Maggie, Grant, Annie, Lucas, Anika, and Olivia. The student council began the school presentation by talking about some of the great things that are happening at Brookside Elementary. The students talked about the school theme for the year, which is “Rise Up To Excellence.”

At Brookside Elementary, Principal Beckert presents at the Tiger Pride assemblies where she teaches about the acronym RISE and what it stands for. RISE means to show Respect, be In control, be Selfless, and be Engaged when we come to school. The student council tries to be examples and help fellow students “Rise Up To Excellence.”

The students talked about their focus for the year, which is to promote kindness at school. They started the “Cheers for Peers.” Each month, the student council finds and highlights students who are showing kindness in their classes, on the playground, and to their classmates and peers. The “Cheers for Peers” has highlighted many acts of kindness and continues to spread kindness throughout the school.

The fifth-graders explained to the Nebo School Board of Education about the school’s charity fundraiser, “Pack the Piggies.” The students are so grateful for the support received that helped them reach their goal. Finally, the students talked about spreading kindness in their “Cheers Clips Campaign.” The students will be spreading words of kindness and encouragement throughout the school.

For the finale, Brookside’s fifth-graders performed an inspiring “Drums Alive” performance.  Brookside’s fourth- and fifth-grade students have been learning about “Drums Alive” in their physical education classes. Groups of students have worked together to create a “Drums Alive” routine. These students selected their own music and choreographed their routines.

Thank you to Mr. Crockett for helping these students with their performance.  You can view the performance at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Av2SqRviQ3w.

Congratulations to Trisha Ringger for answering this week’s “Where are we Wednesday?” challenge sponsored by Wiggy Wash.
