THE PEAK AWARD CUSTOMER SERVICE PROGRAM
Nebo School District wants to showcase our Positive Energy and Kind employees. PEAK Awards are nominated by patrons and recognized by the Superintendent Staff and Nebo School Board of Education. The award is administered by the Communications and Community Relations Department.

Andre Burnham, Bus Driver, Transportation
Nominated by: Alison Hansen

“Andre has been my children's bus driver for about ten years now. During that time, I have watched my own kids and neighbor kids love their bus experience. How often do we hear that? He runs a tight ship but has so much fun with the kids. He welcomes them each morning with a smile and a cheerful face. When kids leave their coats or backpacks on the bus, he saves it for them and/or gives them to a sibling. He really has created a ‘community’ within the bus and my kids are disappointed on days they don't get to ride the bus.”

Lori Lewis, Intervention Technician, Brookside
Nominated by: Kandice Antonino

“Lori is always willing to do anything she is asked! She will drop everything and cover a class if the sub doesn't fill. She will take the time to learn and understand a new program to help struggling readers. Lori is over our Before School Computer Lab. She shows up before most teachers every morning. She is the first adult that most of our students, especially our struggling students see in the morning. Lori is very aware of these students and their needs. She greets them with a warm smile and a cheerful attitude to get their day started off right!”

Shawnee McMullin, Teacher, Santaquin Elementary
Nominated by: Chelsea Rowley & Hannah Camit

“Shawnee McMullin is a brilliantly kind, optimistic, and genuine teacher at heart. She has a natural gift for teaching and loving each of her students with patience and understanding.

“One parent shared, ‘When I would go to parent teacher conferences, I would often have to hold back tears because I could FEEL the love she had for my daughter. She teaches each kid on an individual level and makes each of them feel like they can conquer the world!’

“Mrs. McMullin’s classroom radiates joy. Her energy lights up the room! I felt safe and confident that no matter the circumstances of this year, that we could get through it together. She is always prepared and quick on her feet. She attends an outside of school activity like dance recitals or soccer games for each of her students, which leaves a lasting impression of love long after they leave her classroom. As a team leader, she isn’t just a gift to the students and parents, but the entire faculty as well. She started a friendship mug program at the school for the faculty, costume days to celebrate holidays and special occasions, and put great effort into creating eye-catching and interactive graphics for our school website, social media, and signs around the school. Her work is the face of our school to the public, and we are all more united and better off because she is there. Thank you!”

“Shawnee always goes above and beyond to create a positive relationship with all employees in the building. She teaches her first-graders how important it is to have positive thoughts about ourselves and others. Shawnee makes sure to communicate positive things that the students in her class are doing each month in a variety of ways to parents. Everyone in the building feels more important and appreciated because of Shawnee's bubbly personality and the way she goes out of her way to make sure everyone feels special. Santaquin Elementary is a better and more a positive place to be because of Shawnee.”

Tannis Graves, ESL Technician, Park Elementary
Nominated by: Cristina Lloyd

“Mrs. Graves goes above and beyond for ESL students and their families at Park Elementary. She cares so much for each student and works hard to make sure they are learning and getting the resources they need. I am a first-grade teacher and have multiple ESL students in my class. Mrs. Graves has helped me so much with translating notes and talking with families when needed. She made phone calls to families to schedule Student Led Conferences and was there for each conference to translate for the parents who needed it. She makes the parents feel comfortable, and I can see how much they love and appreciate her. She has helped establish very positive relationships between myself and the families. I appreciate everything she does for our students at Park!”

Leney Edvalson, Special Education, District Wide
Nominated by: Adam Gull

“Leney is a mentor to new Special Education teachers in the district. She has served Rees for a few years now and simply saves our bacon with many difficult situations. Leney keeps our files on track and is a TRUE advocate for students. She communicates clearly to all stakeholders.

“I remember one very difficult situation in particular. Leney was presented with a very difficult situation, where it could have been easy to get stressed out. She handled the situation with such positivity and joy. Leney guided the team through it all and it could not have worked out any better! She is cool under pressure and can work through anything that comes her way. We are so appreciative to Leney and her work at Rees Elementary.”

Cami Thomas, Principal, Mapleton Elementary
Nominated by: Kim Head & Teresa Beebe

“Cami's kindness and positive energy has helped to create an environment of safety and compassion for the students and staff at our school. We have watched her help a student change from a highly volatile state, where Cami turn things around with her kindness and patience. This is an ongoing daily occurrence, which takes a lot of emotional strength. As principal, Cami has balanced strength in leadership with understanding and sensitivity. She made a positive difference every day in the lives of families at our school.”

Pam Turley, Digital Coach, District Wide
Nominated by: Alison Hansen, Angie Killian, Lindsey Hughes, Sarah Brunson

“During a crisis, it's always impressive and inspiring to see whose leadership and vision rises to the top. Pam rises... and rises... and rises! During the COVID closure, Pam tirelessly worked to not only support the entire district in leading the team of digital coaches in putting together digital learning for all, in literally 48 hours, she also touched base with the five specific schools she had stewardship over every day during the closure. Every teacher had her immediate assistance and support. Pam never acted as though a question was too basic. Pam solved them all, big and small. (She solved some big problems!) Pam didn't just give fish, she taught teachers how to fish. Every day, every teacher. Her wisdom and skill directly and indirectly affected thousands of students in our district.

“Once Pam got home each night, she helped all of her neighborhood parents get their children online. Many, many parents in her community relied on her expertise and generous heart. Pam has often said she wants to lead her team of digital coaches in such a way that when it is time for her to retire, she can fade away and have nobody miss her. IMPOSSIBLE! Pam isn't ready to retire anytime too soon; but when that day comes, it will be a sad day indeed for Nebo District. She is irreplaceable. We love Pam!”

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This initiative is designed to focus on "raising the bar" on providing exceptional customer service, both internally and externally. A key component of this initiative is the development of the PEAK Award. The PEAK (Positive Energy and Kindness) Award is presented monthly to someone in the Nebo School District who "really gets it" when it comes to providing exceptional customer service, which in turn results in positive impacts on everyone including students, parents, co-workers and members of the community.

Who Gets Nominated?
Faculty and staff members are nominated by anyone in the community through the Nebo School District website, www.nebo.edu/PEAK wherein a special Customer Service link is provided. The directions as to how to nominate an employee for the PEAK Awards are clearly spelled out on the site. All nominations must include information on how the individual has provided exceptional customer service, as well as how the employee's actions impacted the nominator's overall perception of Nebo School District Schools.
