The Nebo Education Foundation board met in August to discuss the many grants and needs across the district. This Foundation Board functions through generous donations made by individuals and businesses as well as fundraisers where all the money goes to educate students in Nebo School District. The Foundation’s Green Fever Golf Tournament held on August 26 was a huge success. Thank you to all those that so generously supported Nebo students.

Past President Stacy Nance said, “It's exciting to be a part of an organization that improves the learning opportunities for our kids in Nebo School District. With tremendous support of local businesses and giving citizens, the Nebo Education Foundation can provide resources to teachers to enhance the quality of education for our kids in the classroom. Everyone wins when the kids benefit.”

Congratulations to the following teachers that continue to bless the lives of students.

Riverview Elementary – Misty Jones
Misty Jones, a first-grade teacher at Riverview Elementary, said, “This year I am trying out a sound wall in my classroom. The funds that were donated from the foundation are going to supplies that will help make this new program successful! I am excited to be able to implement a sound wall into my classroom because it goes really well with our training in the LTRS program this year. With the donation, I am able to purchase individual mirrors so students can see what their mouths look like when they are making different sounds of the alphabet, helping with their phonemic awareness. I am also able to purchase a sound wall program for my wall to display in my classroom to teach students the different phonemes and graphemes. I am excited to use these materials because not only will it help with reading and phonics, it will benefit my ELL learners, and students with problems with speech. Thank you Nebo Foundation!”

Spanish Fork Junior – Robin White
“I was completely shocked and excited to see the Nebo Education Foundation show up to my class with a check!  As an English teacher, books are a vital part of my classroom, and this money will go to purchasing books that my students will be able to borrow from me. This will allow me to build a classroom library that goes beyond what the school library offers students. What's so exciting about this is that I plan on including every class in the process of choosing books so I know I am hitting a variety of interests. I hope by getting the students involved and excited about choosing books, I might be able to create more life-long readers. Thank you so much for this opportunity!” exclaimed Robin White, an English teacher at Spanish Fork Junior.

Maple Ridge Elementary – Vanessa Schmidt
Vanessa Schmidt, a special education teacher at Maple Ridge Elementary, stated, “Thank you so much to the Nebo Education Foundation for funding this grant for Maple Ridge Elementary.  This will be so helpful to the students that I serve in the resource room.  These decodable readers will target the specific skills that we have been working on for the duration of the lessons that are being taught in the SPIRE reading program.  These readers will provide students with topics that cover many genres including social studies, science and literature. Students will be able to apply the skills that they have learned connected to text. The readers are appropriate for my students reading levels and abilities and can bridge learning from decoding to fluency and comprehension.  Thank you so much for your generosity!”

Spanish Fork Junior – Bridgett Johnson
“Thank you all once again for supporting our program. I have told several of our percussionists about the grant, and they are over the moon that we will be able to afford another instrument for our classroom!” exclaimed Bridgett Johnson, a music teacher at Spanish Fork Junior. “Our Percussion Ensemble has grown rapidly in the last two years. This year we found ourselves without enough instruments for every student in the class. Keyboard instruments can be quite expensive and hard to come by. Thanks to the generosity of the Nebo Education Foundation, we will be able to purchase another marimba for our classroom. Now, more students will have the opportunity to play keyboard in class and we will be able to play more challenging repertoire. Thank you Nebo Education Foundation!!”

East Meadows Elementary – Stephanie Taylor
Stephanie Taylor, a special education teacher at East Meadows Elementary, said, “This grant will be used to purchase the Wilson Reading System reading program that will be used as a tier three intervention in my SPED classroom for students that have severe reading deficiencies due to having a learning disability and needing intensive reading interventions different from the programs already being used in our school. By receiving this grant, it makes it possible for me to purchase the required materials to continue my professional learning to support my students to become fluent, independent readers to improve their reading skills.”
