Nebo Education Foundation delivers Valentines in the form of grants in the month of February 2021. The Nebo Education Foundation meets each month at 7:00 a.m. to discuss submitted educational grant proposals for students in Nebo School District. One of the goals of the foundation is to fund worthwhile projects in the district that provide resources to enrich student learning.

The Nebo Education Foundation could use more money to fund these worthwhile learning grants. Anyone interested in donating to Nebo District schools, classes or programs can do so through the Nebo Education Foundation which is a 501 (c) (3) organization created to bring businesses and donors together for the benefit of Nebo District school children.  Your contribution is a tax-deductible charitable gift as provided by law. Congratulations to the following teachers that continue to inspire the minds of students.

Apple Valley Elementary – Monica Valerio
“We are ecstatic and incredibly grateful for the grant Nebo Education Foundation recently surprised us with! The grant will allow us to supplement our leveled library with decodable books that will allow emergent readers to practice new phonics skills while simultaneously practicing and reviewing previous skills taught. This addition to our library will diversify the materials teachers need in order to enhance small group reading instruction. Thank you Nebo Education Foundation and all the donors who help make these things possible!” exclaimed Monica Valerio, a teacher on special assignment at Apple Valley Elementary.

Rees & Art City Elementary Schools – Shalese Rogers
Shalese Rogers, an instructional coach at Rees Elementary, said, “We are ecstatic about our grant being accepted through the Nebo Education Foundation! Over the past few years, our teachers have been, and continue to focus on explicitly teaching phonics skills to their students. Because of this focus, we noticed a need during small group reading instruction time. We needed a variety of books students and teachers could access and utilize that would support them in practicing foundational reading skills. With this extra practice, students have the opportunity to solidify the phonics concepts being taught in their classrooms. As a result, our hope is for all students to feel empowered and successful when reading text. Throughout the years to come, having access to decodable readers will assist them in doing so. Thank you again Nebo Education Foundation for accepting our grant application. We are excited to get books in the hands of our students.”

Mt. Nebo Middle – Gwen Spencer
“I was beyond delighted to receive this grant from Nebo Foundation.  Dance is a new elective that has been added to sixth and seventh grade.  As we have been working hard to get the class up and running, a need was found for Bluetooth speakers.  This helps the class as they divide into groups to choreograph and work with their selected music.   This supports practice of the Elements of Dance which in turn increases their interest in this wonderful interactive art form.  Thank you for the support, Nebo Foundation,” stated Gwen Spencer, a teacher at Mt. Nebo Middle School.

Cherry Creek Elementary – Michelle Gast
Principal Amy Darrington at Cherry Creek Elementary, said, “We are so grateful to the Nebo Education Foundation for approving this grant. We plan to use these decodable books to supplement our leveled library. Decodable books are a fundamental part of teaching literacy, as students are able to use them to implement and reinforce phonics skills they have learned. These books will provide many reading opportunities to our emerging readers and will be a substantial addition to our leveled library. Thank you for supporting our school!”
