The Nebo School board of Education took a moment in Board meeting this week to recognize our outstanding Nebo school nurses. The nurses have been Nebo Super Heroes throughout this entire school year. In addition to their typical duties, this year Nebo school nurses were required to:
- Trace positive COVID-19 cases in the schools and educate people on quarantine guidelines.
- Facilitate communication between all schools because many families did not understand that a positive COVID-19 case in their household meant they all had to quarantine.
- Educate parents about their responsibility to quarantine and stay home from work when their student tested positive.
- Educate parents that their student could not participate in extracurricular activities because of a positive COVID-19 case in their household or from being a close contact with a positive COVID-19 case at school.
- Gather contact information from families so the nurses could contact their student’s friends to inform them to quarantine.
- Spend many hours in the evenings and on weekends contacting students and faculty so they would not show up to school the next day.
- Help test at the high schools, sometimes at 5:45 am in the mornings, so that students could participate in extracurricular activities.
While many individuals may be frustrated or even disagree with what these school nurses were required to do, they went above and beyond knowing that what they were doing was essential in keeping schools open this year.
Nebo School Board and Nebo School District thanks our school nurses for helping Nebo District to be a leader in the nation in having our schools open for every child, face-to-face, every day this school year.
